Counselling can be challenging as can life, but it can also be a wonderfully empowering experience that can change your life for the better.
It is important that you work with a counsellor with whom you feel comfortable and with whom you can establish a rapport.
We are all different, and have different issues and experiences, and as such we require different approaches to counselling.
The Eclectic approach where Eclectic Counselling derives its name, incorporates an integrative mix of counselling methods, tailored to meet each individual and their issues most effectively.
It is a flexible, versatile counselling approach that allows the therapist to draw on the most effective counselling methods available to address each clients individual needs. This is often also referred to as Integrative counselling.
The approaches drawn on incorporate Person Centred, Humanistic, Narrative, Existential, and cognitive behavioural therapies such as Reality Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.
Often sharing a problem can take the sting out of it. It can sometimes be difficult to discuss issues with family or friends where you need to weigh up issues that may touch them through mutual relationships. Your issues may be deeply personal and knowing that you want confidentiality without any judgement is sometimes easier with somebody outside your usual circle.
Qualified counsellors / psychotherapists have been trained to actively listen and adapt the many eclectic therapies available to suit your particular needs.
Thankfully people are now taking their mental health as seriously as their physical health, there is no longer stigma attached to attending counselling and it is become a healthy, acceptable option.
I feel very privileged to work within a profession that I really enjoy, and where I feel I can help people. It is very rewarding to watch people who come to me and go through the counselling process, leave having addressed and worked through their issues.
I feel that everybody that comes to me is unique, as are their issues, and as such require the approach that is most suited to them.
I work with adults, and adolescents over the age of 12, and have experience of working with a range of issues.
Issues that often come up in counselling are relationship, marriage, family difficulties, anxiety/ panic attacks, depression, bullying, abuse / assault, self-harm, self-esteem issues, bereavement, racism and life stage difficulties such as age, parenthood, new lifestyle adjustment.
Often people attend counselling without a specific problem or issue, they have personal development goals and wish to have somebody to help them go through the process.
My qualifications include a Diploma in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, BA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, Certificate in Child and Adolescent Counselling & Psychotherapy. With a background in business with relevant qualifications BA & MBS in Business, and many years’ experience in business, I also feel well placed to work with people facing the issues pertinent to the workplace.
